COURSE
REQUIREMENTS
Students will sign up for
only one course at a time, with the expectation of focusing on a limited subject
area and completing the work within one month. When the first course is
completed, a student can start a second course from the dozens to which they
have access at no cost, but if the second course is completed during the same
month, a $25 evaluation fee must be paid with the submission of the final
project. Students can get help in the Course Discussion Group from fellow
students at no extra charge. A teacher does oversee the Discussion Groups and is
available to answer questions. In addition to the Discussion Groups, students
are each provided 15 minutes of 1-on-1 Tutor Desk help each month free of
charge, and they can listen in as other students ask questions as long as they
wish. After 15 minutes of personal tutoring, however – whether it is for one
course or more – clients are charged $1 per minute for consultation.
Students must complete
all online coursework and will pass final competency tests with a grade of 90%
or higher. If not, they will seek further understanding and competency, then
retake the test until they have mastered the material. No courses will be
entered into a student’s transcript until the student has displayed a mastery of
the subject and achieved no less than a B score. (Exceptions for those with
severe learning disabilities pursuing a completion certificate rather than a
diploma of mastery.) Students who do not seek full mastery of a subject and/or
do not care if the course appears on their transcript can cease course
activities at such time as they accomplish whatever learning goals they have set
for themselves. No record will be kept of failing or incomplete courses.
Older students will
also participate in a number of other learning activities, including:
- Attend an online
lecture 1 hour each week for four weeks.
- Attend a Student
Discussion Group 1 hour a week for four weeks.
- Seek Tutor Desk
assistance as needed.
- Prepare a Final
Project, as approved by an instructor.
- And, since studies
have shown that more advanced students who provide tutoring for less advanced
students actually learn more than their tutees, advanced students in our
courses will take turns leading a discussion group for lower-level students 1
hour per week and will man the course Tutor Desk 1 hour per week for four
weeks, as well.
Younger students will
also participate in a number of other learning activities as appropriate for
their age level.
